Tuesday, July 13 & Wednesday, July 14, 2010, 9am – 4:00pm • Workshop with Ruth Powers, "Introduction to Picture Piecing.” The location is Westminster Presbyterian Church 1709 W Elizabeth Street, Fort Collins. The purpose of this two-day workshop is to introduce the technique of picture piecing by using a pattern as a starting point. You may not complete your sample quilt but you will have done enough to know if this is a technique that you would like to use again. You’ll be using freezer paper templates and your choice of commercial fabrics. There are no fusible products used and no raw edges. Seam lines often do not meet, adding to the abstract realism of the piece. You will be able to purchase the pattern before the workshop so that you can begin collecting your fabrics. The cost of the pattern is $8.50 and is in addition to the cost of the workshop. Cost of this workshop is $65 for RMCQ members. Click here to get a registration form. This workshop has been cancelled. Sunday, August 8, 2010, 10:00am – 5:00pm • Workshop with Vikki Pignatelli, "Crazy About Curves.” The location is Club Tico 1599 City Park Drive, Fort Collins. In this class students will quickly master the basic concepts of Vikki’s flexible, “no rules”, “no fear” Crazy About Curves technique using a small, simple teaching pattern (complimentary). With this method, a meld of piecing and machine appliqué, students learn to create even sharp curves and narrow points effortlessly without the hassle. There are NO measuring seam allowances, NO easing together unruly seams and NO matching points. All construction work, color choices and stitching are done on the quilt top surface. This is a very simple technique suitable for all skill levels. Workshop emphasis is on creativity, inspiration and self-confidence for the quilter. Students work at their own pace. Cost of this workshop is $65 for RMCQ members. There is no additional kit fee.
Monday, August 9, 2010, 9:00am – 4:00pm • Workshop with Vikki Pignatelli “Adding Dimension and Manipulations to Quilts: The Basics” The location is Club Tico 1599 City Park Drive, Fort Collins. This workshop is for students who want to learn Vikki’s basic improvisational manipulations techniques to obtain dimension and texture in their quilting projects. Students begin the class with short demos to learn Vikki’s basic improvisational procedures. Each student will choose her/his favorite technique among those presented and apply it to a project or make small samples of several different techniques.
